ABSTRACT

Purpose: Effective maintenance of construction supply chains is paramount to business continuity during the pandemic. Focusing on a large private Australian construction company, this research aims to investigate to what extent the current pandemic has affected the daily operations of this company. This research touches on the broader effect on the industry, while it narrows the focus on how effective construction supply chain management can minimise a pandemic's negative impact on a company. The critical question will be how private contractors that primarily rely on social infrastructure projects can fortify their supply chains and general operations during the global pandemic. Design/methodology/approach: A mixed qualitative and quantitative approach is employed in this research. Based on literature review and question design, data is collected through interviews with various stakeholders. Moreover, operation data is also collected from the case company to support the results and findings. Findings: The respondents have generally agreed that the case company has effectively managed its supply chains to this point of the pandemic through the implementation of supply chain monitoring processes and maintaining stable relationships with stakeholders. This is supported by the operation data of the case company. Originality/value: This is timely-conducted research, and it is original research with invaluable operation data. This case study is conducted during a pandemic and provides lessons learned for global supply chain management in the post-pandemic period. © 2022, Emerald Publishing Limited.

ABSTRACT

Aim To elucidate the effective components of Ganoderma applanatum and its mechanism of preventing the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).Methods To begin with, UHPLC-Q-Exactive-Orbitrap-MS was established to identify the main chemical constituents of G.applanatum.Then, the predicted targets of G.applanatum were selected by Swiss Target Prediction.GO analysis and KEGG analysis of core target genes were performed using the DAVID database.Finally, to explore the potential mechanism of G.applanatum against COVID-19, core functional components-core target-metabolism path network diagram was constructed using Cytoscape 3.8.0, and molecular docking was used to analyze the binding force of the core effective compounds with angiotensin-converting enzyme II(ACE2)and three SARS CoV-2 proteins, nonstructural protein-15 Endoribonuclease(NSP15), the receptor-binding domain of spike protein(RBD of S protein), and main protease(Mpro/3CLpro).Results Sixty-two components were identified from G.applanatum by UHPLC-Q-Exactive-Orbitrap-MS study;30 active components were closely associated with 32 core targets including IL6, PTGS2, and MAPK1;KEGG analysis showed that it might treat COVID-19 through signaling pathways, such as PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, TNF signaling pathway, tuberculosis, and so on;molecular docking analysis showed that 1,4-Dihydroxy-2-naphthoic acid, parthenolide, 7,8-Dihydroxycoumarin, and other vital compounds had a certain degree of affinity with ACE2 and three SARS CoV-2 proteins.Conclusion This study clarifies the chemical composition and the potential mechanism of G.applanatum, providing a scientific basis for screening the effective ingredients of G.applanatum. ABSTRACT

To investigate whether the laboratory specimens preserved in Beijing Hospital Biobank during a specific period had been contaminated by SARS-Cov-2 through a cross-sectional study, and to establish a retrospective biobank safety screening system. Laboratory specimens were collected from the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and the Fever Clinic of Beijing Hospital from November 1, 2019 to January 22, 2020, nucleic acid and serological antibody testing were performed for SARS-CoV-2 in these specimens (including 79 serum, 20 urine, 42 feces and 21 bronchoalveolar lavage fluid specimens). The safety of the stored samples during this period was defined by negative and positive results. Both the nucleic acid test and serological antibody test showed negative for SARS-CoV-2, indicating that these specimens were safely stored in the biobank. High-risk specimens collected in our hospital during the early stage of the COVID-19 outbreak are free of SARS-CoV-2, and a safety screening strategy for the clinical biobank is established to ensure the biosafety of these samples.

ABSTRACT

The combination of nontrivial band topology and symmetry-breaking phases gives rise to novel quantum states and phenomena such as topological superconductivity, quantum anomalous Hall effect, and axion electrodynamics. Evidence of intertwined charge density wave (CDW) and superconducting order parameters has recently been observed in a novel kagome material AV(3)Sb(5) (A = K, Rb, Cs) that features a Z(2) topological invariant in the electronic structure. However, the origin of the CDW and its intricate interplay with the topological state has yet to be determined. Here, using hard-x-ray scattering, we demonstrate a three-dimensional CDW with 2 x 2 x 2 superstructure in (Rb, Cs)V3Sb5. Unexpectedly, we find that the CDW fails to induce acoustic phonon anomalies at the CDW wave vector but yields a novel Raman mode that quickly damps into a broad continuum below the CDW transition temperature. Our observations exclude strong electron-phonon-coupling-driven CDW in AV(3)Sb(5) and support an unconventional CDW that was proposed in the kagome lattice at van Hove filling.

ABSTRACT

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can cause great damage to the elderly patients and lead to high mortality. The clinical presentations and auxiliary examinations of the elderly patients with COVID-19 are atypical, due to the physiological ageing deterioration and basal pathological state. The treatment strategy for the elderly patients has its own characteristics and treatment protocol should be considered accordingly. To improve the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of COVID-19 in the elderly, the Expert Committee of Geriatric Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, China Society of Geriatrics established the "Expert consensus for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of coronavirus disease 2019 in the elderly" . We focused on the clinical characteristics and key points for better treatment and prevention of COVID-19 in the elderly. (1) For diagnosis, atypical clinical presentation of COVID-19 in the elderly should be emphasized, which may be complicated by underlying disease. (2) For treatment, strategy of multiple disciplinary team (mainly the respiratory and critical care medicine) should be adopted and multiple systemic functions should be considered. (3) For prevention, health care model about integrated management of acute and chronic diseases, in and out of hospital should be applied.
